Digital print revenue up 20 per cent: PODi survey

Growth in production digital print revenue continues to grow, according to the latest PODi study.

According to the survey, Australian production digital printers produced 13.8 billion A4-equivalent prints in 2009. This was only marginally more pages than the prior year; however the number of colour pages increased by 55 per cent. As a result, the proportion of colour output moved from 16 per cent to 25 per cent of all pages. Due to the higher value of colour prints, the report estimates that the revenue from production digital printing increased 20 per cent.

“This latest study demonstrates that production digital printing experienced robust growth despite the difficult financial conditions of 2009,” said Garry Knespal, (pictured) general manager of PODi Aust NZ and GASAA.

This study builds on years of research conducted by PODi Aust NZ, supported by industry vendors: Canon; Fuji Xerox; Hewlett-Packard; Konica Minolta; Oce and Ricoh. The study includes machines sold to a production-based application where print is produced directly (not offset) and colour speed is 40+ ppm or monochrome speed is 70+ ppm.

The report segments machines based on Recommended Average Monthly Volume (RAMV). The heavy production segment has a RAMV of greater than 1 million, the medium production segment covers 100,000 to a million, and the light production segment comprises machines with a RAMV under 100,000.
