Digital web dexterity scores SOS for Xeikon

The Xeikon's print width of 500mm combines with a sheet length that is practically unlimited, making the machine ideal for the SOS Print & Media Group's planned expansion into the point-of-sale and display markets.

Michael Schulz, director of SOS, claims his company's new digital press will see it take on a variety of new work beyond the traditional A4 and A3 production that it performs.

“We still want to service those markets, but we want to begin to go a little bit beyond that in 2006. When it comes to point-of-sale and display, the Xeikon definitely has something extra to offer.”

Installation of the machine began in late January, and the company expects it to be ready for full production by the end of the month. SOS also plans to use the new press to perform a wide range of variable print, short-run magazine production and customised packaging, among other areas of work.

“There are so many opportunities, both for the large-format as well as for the fast variable imaging engine. We already have customers asking when they can run jobs on the machine and we haven't even promoted it.”

SOS Print & Media Group is located in Sydney, and since starting up in 1976 has grown to become one of the larger privately owned printing companies in Australia. It offers both offset and digital printing, as well as the full spectrum of bindery, finishing, warehousing, kitting and distribution.
