DIMS smashes into Aus market with major PMP contract

DIMS' print management software will be integrated into all eight of PMP's printing plants across Australia and New Zealand, and used to help the company manage the production that brings it $1.33 billion worth of turnover every year.

Malcolm Shield, project sponsor at PMP, claims the decision to go with DIMS was the result of was the result of a worldwide search for the best MIS solution that began at the last Drupa in 2004.

“As the market leader we need to constantly challenge ourselves to optimize our operations; be more efficient in all areas of sales, customer service and production; and finally, we need to operate our plants in a totally integrated manner in order to maximize our available capacity,” says Shield.

“After extensive workshops and pilot installations we are confident that we have found our partner in DIMS organizing print,” he says.

Scott Nicey is taking care of the distribution of the DIMS software in Australia, and he claims the PMP installation represents only the first stage of the company's planned expansion into the Asia Pacific region.

“We're setting up offices at the moment in Melbourne,” says Nicey. “DIMS is a worldwide company, and the company's head office believes it will make a great base of operations to expand its reach throughout Asia.”

Nicey claims that while the Australian operations are focussing on the PMP installation for the moment, he insists it will not be long before we see the DIMS print management software installed into a number of new sites around the country.

“The installation at PMP will be finished with the next few months, so following that we will be looking at other prospects throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific region,” says Nicey.

All of the DIMS software functionality will be installed at the PMP sites, with features including sales estimating, order management, production scheduling, shop floor data collection, direct machine interface, shipping and billing. The software will interface with JD Edwards Financial systems, while a JDF interface will be used communicate with the Pre-Press systems, including software from Creo.

DIMS develops, sells and implements its MIS solutions for the printing industry worldwide. The company markets its software as a one-stop shop for commercial print providers, taking care of everything from pre-press to print and bind, and from supply chain to transportation.
