Docucopy installs first Nuvera in Victoria

Outstanding image quality, faster scanning and wider substrates seal deal.

Carlton-based Docucopy has installed the first Xerox Nuvera Copier Printer in Victoria and owner David Shandler (pictured) couldn’t be happier:

“The Nuvera was installed and printing jobs on the same day. I’ve had a lot of print technology installed over the years and this was the best and easiest. It’s hats off to the Fuji Xerox technicians.”

Already a Xerox afficianado, with a DocuTech 6135 for black & white high volume and a DocuColor 6060 for colour, Shandler saw the Nuvera running at the Drupa tradeshow in Germany, loved the quality and wanted one to complement Docucopy’s existing print capacity.

“If anyone had said to me beforehand that comparing black on a DocuTech to black on a Nuvera would be so different, I would have disagreed. Black, after all, is black! But the quality on the Nuvera print is outstanding. It produces a very different black and white print indeed. In particular, the reproduction of grey scales, stipples and half-tones is stunning.”

The Nuvera Copier Printer employs a range of technologies first designed for the Xerox DocuColour iGen3 production colour printing press. As a result, it offers 4800x600 dpi image quality, with 125 lines per inch half tone screens.

Docucopy specialises in the production of training manuals and books for educational institutions, as well as training manuals for public companies. Shandler also opted for a professional finisher, so the Nuvera’s online saddle stitching means books can be run and finished quickly, reducing labour time and increasing productivity.

“We print offset colour covers, put them through the Nuvera with the text run and saddle stitch them,” Shandler added.

Deadlines are dead easy

According to Shandler, Docucopy faces some tight turnaround times: most work is the same or next day.

“We contract to educational institutions such as TAFEs and Universities, dealing with many departments that wait until they know final student numbers before they print course materials. The popularity of the course influences how many printed books are required – from 20 up to 2000 – but turnaround times are always tight because of the waiting until the last minute on course numbers.”

Tight deadlines are where the Nuvera 120 shines. Printing at 120 A4 impressions per minute, it can print at up to 72 A3 images per minute.

The Nuvera Copier Printer also features a 600x600dpi scanner with a 120 impression per minute scan speed. It features a DVD-R and CD-RW, which means Docucopy can scan a print job, make any necessary adjustments using the standard DocuSP interface, then print it and burn the file easily to CD.

“The scanning is the best feature - Nuvera can scan both sides at the same time, saving us time. The CD and DVD burning also makes digital archiving easier,” said Shandler.

Another attraction was the wide range of paper stock the Nuvera can print onto:

“It will print on stocks from 56-216gsm on bond, offset, carbonless, tabs, card stock, covers and recycled papers. It has opened up new market opportunities for us, particularly in regards to newsletters.”
