Don Woolman is inducted into the LATMA Hall of Fame
At the LATMA awards dinner in Tanunda on Saturday, Woolman (pictured centre, flanked left by John Bucham, past president, with Brenton Barrett, president of LATMA on right), one of the industry legends, was officially honoured by his colleagues for achievements over a career spanning some 55 years.
From a beginning in 1950 as an apprentice hand and machine compositor at the South Australia Government Printing and Stationery Department through stints at Collie & Co as a sales representative, market development manager for Griffin Press and head of school at the TAFE – School of Printing and Graphic Arts he gained an in-depth knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of the industry.
Best know in his latter years as the managing director of Precision Labels he developed the company into one of the nationally recognised specialist wine label printing companies in Australia. On his watch the company grew from having 16 employees with a turnover of $1.4 million in 1989 to 105 employees and $17.5 million turnover in 2003, before being sold to Labelmakers.
Don now operates as a consultant, with commissions not only from Labelmakers, but also from other label interests in Victoria, New Zealand and California. He also did a grand job of being MC at the LATMA conference.
