drupa – Xerox starts to move towards inkjet

A new mono printer, 650/1300, will highlight the company’s focus on high speed, continuous feed technology at drupa.

Under the banner of its new lower case, ‘friendly’ logo, Xerox is to host a technology demonstration of inkjet technology at this year’s show. This is not a major change of direction away from its traditional toner-based machines but rather recognition that the improvements in inkjet as well as solid ink require a new approach to the market, according to Valarie Blauvelt, vice president of marketing. She emphasized that the company’s approach to inkjet depends on it being able to bring advanced solutions to the market, “when the time is right.”

At the international media conference, Xerox also highlighted new printing technologies, workflow solutions, business development services and applications. The European launch of the 630/1300 continuous feed colour system, first launched in Australia last year at Salmat (formerly HPA) will reinforce the company’s advance into the transactional and book printing sectors. The 650/1300 can print up to 1, 232 duplex A4 images per minute.  The system uses dry toner, xerographic imaginga and flash-fusing technology – a unique process that does not use heat or pressure or make contact with the paper.

To emphasize the broad utility of its Freeflow workflow at drupa Xerox will host a Heidelberg offset press on its stand, a far cry from some original hubristic claims for the supremacy of digital technology. It will demonstrate how offset printing and digital presses complement one another in a real world environment. In addition, new software for the iGen3, version 3.0 to enhance colour profiles and productivity, including improved automation, will be launched at drupa.
