Economic concerns prompt Queensland printers’ forum
Concerns that the Queensland economy is underperforming are behind a free forum Printing Industries has organised in support of the Queensland printing industry.
Printing Industries Queensland general manager Neal McLary, (pictured) said the forum would aim to facilitate some sharing of thought, information and advice within the industry to assist develop strategies for survival in today’s difficult economic conditions.
“Economic data suggesting that the Queensland economy is the most underperforming of the nation is a major concern and we need to find out the extent our industry is being impacted and how to fix or at least minimise the impact,” he said.
“We need to identify the most important issues, agree on why margins are being cut to the bone, identify what costs should be being passed on to customers rather than being absorbed by business and learn from what other industries are doing.
“We don’t have to work in isolation, there are lessons we can learn from other manufacturing industries and how they are coping.”
McLary said the forum would be professionally facilitated by Stephen Michell, Partner - Business Recovery, with HLB Mann Judd. Michell conducted the recent Printing Industries national forum in 2009, ‘Surviving the global financial crises’, and will bring new lessons and concepts to the forum.
“Stephen is well experienced with the printing industry and in addition to facilitating, will provide professional commentary to guide attendees.”
The forum will be held on Wednesday 8 September 2010 from 4.30pm-7.30pm at the Allan Border Field, 1 Bogan Street, Albion.
Registration is essential can be made by contacting Dawn Street: qld@printnet.com.au or phone (07) 3356 0022 before Friday 3 September 2010. Refreshments are included.
