Focus Press’s brand new Hume manufacturing plant boasts the highest information security rating in the country. The Canberra facility, set to throw open its doors tomorrow, is one of only two accredited with an ISO2700, making it the most secure site in Australia, says David Fuller, managing director of Focus Press.

Over 120 industry figures and half-a-dozen ministers are expected to show support for the launch of the certified carbon-neutral digital and offset company’s new $8 million site. At roughly 5000 square meters, the facility is the fourth in the Focus Press empire and will partner with the company’s Wollongong plant. Complementing Wollongong’s strong logistics network, the Hume site will provide a total service solution for the Canberra region, and deliver next-day turnarounds nationally.

Speaking with Print21, David Fuller, managing director Focus Press, said, “It’s one of the best manufacturing sites you can have. It’s also the most secure site in the country. It is ISO 2700 approved for security. The only one in Australia is our Wollongong site. It’s the highest ISO in the country.”

Deputy Chief Minister Andrew Barr MLA will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Canberra tomorrow. The Hume plant is expected to create 20 local manufacturing jobs initially, potentially to increase to as many as 50 by the end of 2014. The site will specialise in short run digital and litho, and will add laser die-cutting to Focus Press’s national offering. The launch tomorrow will also see the integration of a newly acquired promotional items business into the Focus brand.

"Most secure site in the country", David Fuller, managing director, Focus Press

“I see the opening of the Hume site as nicely capping off our overall strategy up to this point. We measure and manage everything in all our facilities, we have policies on what we need to do to keep them energy efficient. In Canberra we can do real-time energy monitoring and auditing, it’s fully insulated and has a terrific ventilation system. It was originally fitted out for the government with a state-of-the-art heating system too, which we’ll be keeping,” said Fuller.

Focus Press operates four sites, two in Sydney, one in Wollongong and now its new Hume facility in Canberra. According to Fuller, the Matraville site alone reported a 50% reduction in its energy footprint this year. Fuller attributes the achievment to a number of ongoing strategies, including lighting, power factor corrections and improved productivity through manufacturing.

In addition to its new security rating, the Hume site also holds ISO9001 for quality management and ISO14001 for environmental management accreditations shared by its sister sites.
