The Flexible Packaging and Label Manufacturers Association (FPLMA) has held its annual technical forum in Melbourne, featuring expert speakers from across the industry. The organisation's annual general meeting also saw three new members appointed to the Board.

Held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) on October 19-20, the two-day forum covered diverse topics including preparing for future employment trends, organisational culture, new insights into processes and materials, developing talent through training, industry lobbying and workplace relations, achieving new efficiencies and standards in pre-press, and the latest developments in digital printing and converting technologies.

Mark Easton, president of the FPLMA, said attendance was up from the inaugural event last year. "I think the forum went very well. We had a diverse range of speakers with expertise in all areas of labels and flexible packaging, and we had more converters attending this year than last year. It's a good sign that the line-up that we've had has encouraged more to come along.

"I think people got good value from the topics on offer," Easton said.

At the association's AGM, three new board members were elected to replace outgoing members Kim Bridges, Anthony Brown and Yvonne Lockwood: Michelle Lees, from HP; Tania James, from Hally Labels, who could not make it to the event; and life member David Feenan, who previously served on the board of the ANZFTA before the merger with LATMA. "This is only the second year since the merger, so it's good that we have fresh people coming onto the new association, bringing their life experiences and industry experiences to re-energise the FPLMA," Easton said.

The three new members were elected unopposed to fill the three vacant positions.
