FSC meeting makes its way to Sydney
Following a sell-out session in Melbourne, FSC Australia brings the Publishers, Printers and Paper Network Meeting to Sydney on 25 September.
Bringing together participants in the FSC system from paper, printing and publishing industries, the event is designed to offer advice and answers to any questions that audience members may have.
"There are a lot of people in the industry who have heard about FSC and feel they need to find out a bit more about what it is," said Michael Spencer, chief executive, FSC. "This event will give them a better understanding."
The Wilderness Society national forest campaign manager and FSC board member Sean Cadman will discuss why the environment movement supports FSC rather than other forest certification programs; printers will talk about their experience with the FSC system and Australian Paper will outline efforts to respond to industry calls for a locally-produced FSC certified book paper.
Spencer noted that there are now more than 30 companies from the printing and paper sector that have chain of custody, and these companies have specific questions which they want answered.
"They want to make sure they can use FSC as a seamless part of their business and that's the idea behind developing the network," he said.
Considering the strong response to the Melbourne session held in July, Spencer feels optimistic towards the Sydney event. "We are expecting a good crowd," he said. "The level of interest in the paper and printing industry is very high, and there's also a very strong interest now from the publishing sector."
