Fuel surcharges threaten drupa visitors

Drupa attendees are being urged to book and pay for their tickets immediately following a new round of fuel surcharge increases.

Printing Industries supa drupa tour agent, Gerd Wilmer (pictured), of Landmark Travel said that it was best to take action soon.

"Lufthansa have already increased its fuel surcharge by about $150 per person," he said.

"Emirates have advised that their fare increases will apply from 1 December 2007 and will also be about $150 per person depending on the class of travel chosen.

"Their first class and business seats will increase by five percent and economy seats by eight percent."

On Tuesday 13 November, British Airways announced increases on the kangaroo route bringing its fuel surcharge to $272.30 per person return. Other airlines including Qantas are expected to announce increases shortly.

"Oil prices have already hit record highs and these increases are expected to continue with the northern hemisphere winter approaching," Wilmer said.

"The call to 'Book Now' and save has never been more relevant that it is now. Literally there is only a small window of opportunity of a few weeks to take advantage of the lower prices still available before they too disappear."
