Fuji Xerox Australia sells 100th DocuColor 2000 Series digital colour press in Australia

Fuji Xerox Australia has announced the sale of the one hundredth Xerox DocuColor 2000 Series digital colour press, having signed the deal with Hawker Brownlow of Melbourne.

The Xerox 2000 series, including the Xerox DocuColor 2045 and 2060, offer full colour, double-sided printing at up to 60 ppm – perfect for producing Hawker Brownlow’s high-quality books for schools.

Established in 1983, Hawker Brownlow publishes and prints educational books for schools and home learning. In 1985, they took delivery of their first Xerox machine and have remained loyal customers since. They currently own two Xerox DocuTech 6135s and two DocuColor 1250s but as the business has grown, so has their need for a larger capacity, faster machine. Hawker Brownlow now prints over 100,000 books every year.

Elaine Brownlow, Publishing Director of Hawker Brownlow, is anticipating increased productivity and company revenue following the delivery of the new machine.

“We publish and market the books ourselves. Before we bought the DocuColor 1250 we had to outsource the printing of the covers and order them in bulk. We might only have needed one copy of a book but had to have 500 covers printed,” said Elaine. “We had a big storage problem and a lot of money tied up in inventory. Now, using the DocuColor 1250 we print only what we need in-house – sometimes just one copy.”

“The DocuColor 1250 has enabled us to grow the business, to the point where we have actually outgrown our machine,” explained Elaine. “So we are now upgrading to the DocuColor 2045, mainly for its speed and larger capacity. It will also allow us to incorporate colour illustrations into the text and duplex all in one.”

Hawker Brownlow plan to take advantage of the variable data capabilities of the DocuColor 2045. One of their most popular lines is Quickword - ‘mini-dictionaries’ for school children. Once the DocuColor 2045 digital colour press is installed, Brownlow will offer personalised Quickword books for schools, with the student’s name printed on the cover.

Elaine added: “The service from Fuji Xerox has been excellent! When it came to upgrading to a faster machine, we didn’t even bother to shop around. We just went straight to Fuji Xerox – we knew they’d have the solution.”

“Like many of our customers, Hawker Brownlow brought digital colour in-house starting with a DocuColor 1250,” said Henryk Kraszewski, Production Colour Manager for Fuji Xerox Australia. “As their business and requirements grew, they added another, and then upgraded to the DocuColor 2000 Series to keep pace with their rapid growth in short-run digital colour printing.”

“In October 2000, we first introduced the DocuColor 2060 to the Australian market followed by the DocuColor 2045 in July this year,” said Kraszewski. “In that time, the DocuColor 2000 Series has become the most successful digital production colour press in the history of printing. It’s appropriate that on the second anniversary of its launch, we announce the hundredth sale to an innovative and leading digital print provider like Hawker Brownlow.”
