Blacktown-based Pegasus Print Group is ahead of the game after taking part in an “early customer acceptance testing programme” of the new DocuWide C842 ultra-fast wide-format inkjet that was first shown at drupa last year.

Wayne Finkelde, CEO, had nothing but praise for the Fuji Xerox device at the media launch yesterday at the Epicentre in Sydney. In an impassioned presentation he claimed the device has already shown the company new markets it can serve.

“We were thrilled when Fuji Xerox invited Pegasus Print Group,” he said.  “The DocuWide C842 has delivered significant improvements and new opportunities in our business. We have seen processes streamlined and turnaround time greatly reduced.”

The super fast machine uses third party technology but Simon Lane, Chief Marketing Officer of Fuji Xerox Australia, is adamant the core technology was developed by Fuji Xerox in association with European-based Caldera software company. The DocuWide C842 can pump out high quality colour at 152.4 mps, more than 320 m2 per hour. Fuji Xerox claims the 1067 mm wide engine can output sufficient print to cover a standard doubles tennis court in less than 50 minutes or an Olympic sized swimming pool in just over four hours.

The water-based ink is delivered through five print heads arranged in zigzag formation. A newly developed ink circulating system eliminates the air bubbles that have been a hindrance to ultra fast inkjets in the past.

Targeted at multiple industry sectors, it is suitable for exhibition signage and in-store displays as well as illustrations, perspective drawings and photographs. According to Peter Collings (pictured), national business manager at the launch, the new technology will reduce turnaround times and help customers grow and prosper.

“The DocuWide C842 will enable businesses to improve design drawing and marketing communications as well as handle timely outputs and a large range of print job requirements.”

In paying tribute to the cooperation between Pegasus Print and Fuji Xerox, Simon Lane (pictured), said, “Fuji Xerox Australia worked with Pegasus Print Group to identify what new customer sectors and opportunities the business could leverage with an install of the DocuWide C842 and created a compelling business case for them.

“The company has had a long term relationship of over 20 years with Pegasus. The business was already using many offset, multifunction devices, digital and other presses, but what was really missing was a high speed, high quality format device that could service the AO colour growth in orders from customers and a need for more customisable prints at a fast turnaround.”

The DocuWide C842 will be on show at the Fuji Xerox stand at PacPrint.
