GAMAA leads new scholars in the right direction

Winners David Constable, Nathan Kable, Stephen McRobert and Jacob Galea were each excited by the news that their scholarship application was successful. “I am excited by the opportunity to network with people directly involved in the graphic arts and printing industry,” said Constable.

GAMAA’s Leadership programme has now been running for five years and, according to president Alastair Hadley, has attracted a broad range of candidates. “In the past five years the programme has steadily developed a reputation that has reached beyond the traditional print industry boundaries to embrace other sectors in which print and graphic communications are integral components,” he said.

Part of the Leadership programme includes participating in two compulsory three-day workshops. The first, ‘Building High Performance Teams’ runs from 3-5 May, in Victoria. Coached by John Urbano and Colin Beatie, it shows how teams can work together to deliver more efficient services. Next is the ‘Strategic Customer Focus’ workshop held in Sydney from 30 August-1 September. Delivered by Peter Singline, this interactive workshop addresses solutions on how to establish and leverage a customer-centric mindset.

For scholarship recipient Stephen McRobert, who had previously attended a GAMAA workshop in 2006, the chance to learn from the experts again will be a highlight. “Having attended the last GAMAA workshop in 2006 … I have already applied much of what I learnt at the workshop in the workplace with great success,” he said. “I aim to use this opportunity not only for my own self development but also for the development of the production unit I manage.”

President Hadley said that he welcomed the new students and looked forward to seeing how the programme develops in the future.
