GEON sites gain ISO certification
GEON continues its ISO 12647-2 rollout around Australia.
Last year, GEON's Banksmeadow site was the first to receive certification from DES, gaining a perfect score of 100 per cent. Since then, sites in Dee Why, Mount Waverley and – as of last week – Perth, followed, with two of the sites also receiving a mark of 100 per cent.
Shane Smithe, group process and operations improvement manager, said that it was only a matter of time before all GEON sites are ISO-accredited.
“We have a roll-out planned for the whole group,” he said, adding that Eagle Farm in Queensland and Highbrook in Auckland would be next in line.

David Crowther of DES spent time at each site with the GEON staff implementing the PrintSpec software to make the company ISO-accredited. During the implementation, all aspects of the reproduction and print process was checked and measured.
Crowther praised the results which GEON received. "By the end of the implementation, they [the staff] were inspired and motivated by this structured approach to standards and colour management," he said.
According to Smithe, GEON chose to work with DES because the two share a history of involvement in colour management.
“DES made the implementation very easy for us,” Smithe said. “It was quite an easy conversion and a simplified process, due to the weeks of preparation by our team and DES."
Feedback from GEON’s customers has all been positive. Smithe believes that ISO-accreditation has lead to an even more efficient workplace, eliminating the need for customer press approvals.
“Aligning ourselves with an independent standard gives us a real advantage,” he said.
