GMS Pacific kicks a goal at the MCG
Customers who attended the event were treated to a tour of the MCG along with presentations from several visiting international suppliers, including DoWell Swiss, Lohmann, ASHE Converting and EyeC Proofing.
The company has provided services to the narrow and label web industry for nearly 30 years and earlier in 2006 changed its name to GMS Pacific from its former title of Graphic Machinery and Supplies, to mark both its expansion and the addition of a number of new products to its portfolio.
Donna Seah, general manager at GMS Pacific, claims the company is always striving to offer its customers new opportunities and was excited by the chance to showcase the new products in such a unique setting.
“The modern printer is faced with an ever increasing array of new services and technology. Competition is fierce, customer's demands are higher and margins are being squeezed,” says Seah.
“Our new range of products represents the highest quality and best value for money on the market today, all of which can help converters increase productivity by reducing production times and waste.”
GMS Pacific welcomes its suppliers
Wolfgang Whitman, from Lohmann, spoke on the dynamics of tape thickness for label producers. Lohmann is a German-based company that is one of only a handful of suppliers of plate-mounting adhesive tapes worldwide, and has introduced an extensive range to meet the needs of letterpress and flexo print jobs.
Johnson Lai, sales manager at DoWell Swiss, was on hand to launch the distribution through GMS Pacific of his company's Multi-Purpose Printing Press, a narrow web machine with highly flexible units that allow it to quickly switch between a number of different printing jobs.
“As a newcomer to the label market, we need to build up our partnerships around the world,” said Lai.
“GMS Pacific is our latest agent and we regard this cooperation as long term. The company has an excellent dedication to service and support.”
Matthew Godbold, ASHE Converting, was present to speak on his company's extensive range of slitting and rewinding machines. The company manufactures 80 per cent of the parts for its products, a fact that Godbold claims offers it a fantastic advantage as far as quality goes.
The Opal Label Inspection Slitter Rewinder range from ASHE Converting is available in three web configurations relative to press sizes on the market today. The machine incorporates 2 digital AC drives and an advanced PLC with operator interface by screen.
Ansgar Kaupp presented on the EyeC Proofiler solution that is available through GMS Pacific, which digitally compares the first samples from the printing machine against the customer's proof. Both examples are scanned and checked automatically for spelling mistakes and layout errors among other inconsistencies. The product is especially suitable for label production.
The final presentation for the day was from Amir Gergis, business development manager for GMS Pacific who joined the company last year, speaking on the range of new products available. A focus of his presentation was the BTG ceramic blades, which he claims lasts up to eight times longer than a traditional steel blade.
“Although the blade is a more expensive option, it takes the same amount of time to install,” says Gergis. “Because it lasts up to eight times longer it is saving you an absolute fortune in press time.”
