Adams Print and Press Print have topped the gold medal charts at the Victorian PICAs, with five apiece. Chapel Press took out four, while Labelhouse and Pandoras Boxes won two each.

Adams Print scored its swag of golds in Leaflets/Folded Leaflets/Flyers or Brochures; Booklets/Catalogues/Magazines; Calendars; Booking Printing Offset; and Limited Edition, while Press Print picked up gold in Booklets/Catalogues/Magazines; Book Printing Digital; two in Book Printing; and Embellishment.

In total, Adams Print scored eight medals including bronze and silver, while Press Print won seven; Blue Star Print won nine, with one gold – for Direct Mail. Chapel Press collected six medals overall. Labelhouse took out two golds, as did Pandoras Boxes.

Shane Soutar, managing director of Adams Print, said his team really enjoys the awards process and looks forward to it every year.

“It’s one of those things where you don’t expect to do well, you just try your best each year and see what happens. It was interesting for us this year that there were international judges. We were hoping to do well this year but we weren’t sure, and everyone’s delighted.

“It’s awesome that everyone’s getting behind the Print Awards again. It was a great night, and thanks to everyone for organising it,” he said.

Kevin Stevens, managing director of Press Print, said his staff are known and trusted in the industry to handle difficult jobs.

“We’ve got a team of artisans here – they’re knowledgable and crafty. It was a great night, and we were thrilled to end up with five gold and two silver, giving us five entries into the National Print Awards next month.

“We work really hard for our clients to get the desired result – most of the products we undertake come with a high degree of difficulty. Our clients trust us with those, and we’ve got the staff to do the job,” he said.

Walter Kuhn, president of the PIAA, hailed the night as a success and congratulated all winners.

“We are delighted that the event was so well received by our industry. The team worked diligently to raise the standard of the event to one that would appropriately reflect the deep respect the association has for the exemplary work produced by Victorian printing, packaging, and the visual communications sector,” he said.

The PICAs gold medallists will now advance to the National Print Awards, to be held in conjunction with PrintEx in Sydney next month, with the awards slated for Thursday 15 August. West Australian printers will gather fior their PICAs on Saturday night, with Queensland the last of the states to hold a PICA awards dinner, on 24 July.
