Grays Group to grab greater share of equipment sales

The move into the graphic arts is a result of what Josh Sanders, general manager-industrial of GraysOnline, describes as; “exceptional growth over the past few years.

“We are now in a position to appoint business developers in specific industries and have identified the printing industry as a key component of our future growth. We believe Andy’s skill set, knowledge of the industry, contact base and perception of the Industry’s future fits in perfectly with our intention to become the foremost auction site for printing and packaging equipment on a global scale,” he said.

The long established auction company already facilitates over 8000 auctions each year with office and warehouse facilities located across Australia. GraysOnline was established six years ago and now auctions over half the stock sold by Grays.

McCourt, a well-known researcher, commentator and writer in industry media and at conferences, has a sales, marketing and business development background covering printing, prepress and industrial photographic equipment and consumables. He has consulted in marketing and business development capacities, to major industry organisations here and internationally including Xerox, Fujifilm, Goss (Rockwell), DuPont, Kwik Kopy, HP Indigo, Heidelberg UK, IPEX, PakPrint, Picon, PIAA, GASAA and the LIA.

“Joining the Grays Group is a perfect way of combining my industry experience with the growing world of online commerce,” he said. “GraysOnline Auctions have been hugely successful since their inception and provide businesses across the whole spectrum of manufacturing, industry and mining with asset disposal and acquisition opportunities that make sound commercial sense. Surplus inventory and equipment can be turned into cash very quickly; used or traded-in equipment quickly sold to free up shop floor or warehouse space. Hard-to-find equipment or supplies can be sourced for particular needs.”

McCourt added that GraysOnline has plans to increase its activities in international markets. Opening the opportunity to place excess Australian and New Zealand press capacity overseas will take the pressure off local over-capacity. “The global trade in used printing and packaging machinery is estimated at US$8 billion a year,” he said, “a small part of that would be attractive. I look forward to getting around the industry, meeting old and new friends and discussing how GraysOnline can provide a very valuable, risk-free service in selling and buying assets.

“Suppliers of equipment and consumables can also use GraysOnline to move over-stocks and discontinued lines; GraysOnline already has a good track record in doing this on behalf of major corporations. It enables fluidity in supply chains and lets suppliers get on with their main game.”

As a traditional auction house that has embraced online trading and governed it with the same ethics, doing business with GraysOnline is guaranteed to be free of fraud and other risks and, above all, fair. Goods can be inspected prior to bidding; sellers may remain anonymous if they wish. As an online auction closes, there is a ten-minute wait, equivalent to ‘going once, going twice…’ If no more bids come in within the refresh period, the ‘hammer falls’ and the auction concludes. GraysOnline database of potential buyers is over a quarter of a million names.
