Greyhounds WA race ahead with Ricoh C900
A bet on digital printing has paid off for Greyhounds WA, which installed one of the state’s first Ricoh C900 presses.
The Perth-based company, which prints up to 3,250 racing form guides a week was previously a total offset operation. In the back of Richard Such, print supervisor’s, mind was the knowledge that moving into digital printing was an inevitability.
After installing a press from another supplier, the company realised that it needed something that matched offset quality and also suited its budget. “What we were looking for were three key features: speed, reliability and reasonable quality,” said Richard.

A call from Ricoh alerted Richard and Peter Scrafton, manager totalisator and print, to the upcoming arrival of the C900 digital press. Seeing it in action convinced the two that it was everything they needed. The press was installed in October last year.
“The machine has turned out to be really good,” said Peter. “We have ended up with superb quality and speed to match.”
Along with racing forms books, the C900 is also being used for printing numbered tickets and has eliminated the need for using the company’s offset press.
Richard is pleased with the changes the machine has brought to the business. “The service and support we get from the Western Australia Ricoh team,” he said. “We are now in a position where we produce the best racing form guide in Australia.”
