Local industry economics guru, Hagop Tchamkertenian, is looking to work within the broader printing industry when he finishes with the peak industry body on 26 July. Responsibility for the iconic industry survey will remain with the Association.

His departure came as a shock to colleagues when it was announced last Friday. “It’s time for me to move on. I joined Printing Industries straight from Sydney University in 1993 with economics honours degree. The association has been very good to me and I leave on amicable terms,” he said.

Hagop is one of the most high-profile members of the industry, well known for his popular industry economics presentations. He regularly presented to industry groups in all states and territories, usually to full houses.

His long experience examining industry data gave him a singular understanding of trends and events.

According to Bill Healey, CEO, the departure will trigger a review of the Association’s research activities. In an announcement to staff he detailed some of Hagop’s achievements during his tenure including his comprehensive understanding of the economic factors that underpin the industry.

In a statement, Healey said:

"He has been involved in the development of a range of significant policy documents, Government submissions, industry campaigns and major projects such as the Print 21 Industry Action Agenda, Printing Industry Competitiveness Scheme, EPICs and Benchmarking Study.

"He has also been a valued contributor to the work of ACCI’s Economics and Taxation Working Groups. I am sure all members will join with me in thanking Hagop for his efforts and wish him well for the future."
