Heidelberg lean expert takes on New Zealand
Chris Agius brings his lean manufacturing skills to Heidelberg New Zealand where he takes up the role of general manager – sales.
The former business consultancy manager joined Heidelberg Australia three years ago and has over 20 years’ experience within the printing industry, from prepress through to production. Completing a bachelor of business, he gained a solid understanding and interest in lean manufacturing which he has implemented in businesses ever since.
When former general manager of New Zealand, Hemi Brown, decided to leave the industry, the role came up and Agius decided to apply. According to Alastair Hadley, general manager sales, marketing and product management, Agius’ expertise in business and history of involvement in the printing industry made him the ideal candidate for the position. “We felt that the time was right to have someone with Chris’ skills on board,” Hadley said.

Next month Agius (pictured) relocates to New Zealand to take up the role; his family will follow in January 2010. He admits that while the role is an exciting step forward, it will also come with its challenges.
“New Zealand has been hit quite hard with the Global Financial Crisis and we need to be able to offer customers a high level of service and see how we can add more value to customers during this period,” he said.
“I hope to improve cost reductions and build relationships with customers in these difficult times to make sure that they stay with Heidelberg.”
Agius intends on taking a direct, hands-on approach to the role and apply his lean manufacturing experience. “I would like to think that with my background and experience I can provide further support to our customers and help them implement the required changes.”
