Heidelberg has announced a fresh expansion into the electric mobility industry with its new Wallbox charging station for electric cars, to be launched at the Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition in Stuttgart this month.
Citing an increase in demand for electric cars, of which there are expected to be one million in Germany by 2020, Heidelberg said in a press release that there would soon be a huge need for an extensive network of publicly available and private charging stations with the appropriate charging capacity, as there are only 25,000 public charging points in the country at present. “We’re confident that we’re at a turning point when it comes to electric mobility,” said Rainer Hundsdörfer, CEO. “Electric cars are becoming a real option for more and more drivers. We want to take advantage of this trend, and put our expertise to work to benefit from this growth market.”
The new Wallbox, which offers charging capacity up to 22kW, will be unveiled at the Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS30), taking place in Stuttgart, Germany, from October 9 to 11. Stephan Plenz, member of the management board responsible for technology, said Heidelberg was making charging stations easy to access. "Heidelberg is making the charging station mainstream for all electric cars, and by so doing laying the ground for a breakthrough in electric mobility. Whether for the garage at home, the parking space in front of the supermarket, or in the city center, the Wallbox offers tailored electronics.
"We’ve invested hugely in the area of electric mobility in recent years. With the Wallbox, we’re now offering commercial and private customers an entry-level model that is leading the way in terms of functionality and value for money," Plenz said.
