Heidelberg to move its Melbourne HQ
The new site will be situated at the Ferntree Business Park in the Melbourne suburb of Notting Hill, which is 23km from the CBD and in close proximity to a large number of print providers in the area.
“It makes sense. The rents are much cheaper and it brings us closer to our customers. We polled our staff and found all but one or two were happy to move with us, that’s very important,” said Andy Vels Jensen, managing director.
Rather than fashioning an existing building to fit its needs, Heidelberg has decided to build its own custom-built premises from the ground up. The current building on the site is scheduled to be demolished in June with construction on the new premises set to commence in August.
Upon completion the new HQ will be a three-story building with a street-front display, containing an area close to a square kilometre, big enough for the company’s Print Media Academy that will included training rooms, a customer meeting area and other amenities like a café.
Heidelberg claims the impending move is part of an overall restructuring plan in place for some time that involves shifting its main operations to Melbourne, meaning it is in sync with other changes within the company.
Heidelberg has put together a Relocation Management Committee to oversee the move that will be working closely with builders and architects, and will be keeping staff up to date with any changes as things proceed.
In other Heidelberg news, the company has reached an agreement with Buhrs to distribute its film and paper wrapping systems across Australia, New Zealand and a number of other countries across the Asia pacific region.
Heidelberg’s division in Malaysia will take over the customer support activities currently provided by Buhrs in the country. Both companies claim their customers will be better served under the new agreement.
