High-end real estate collateral wins global prize

Oversized photobook of luxury real estate helps developer sell 400 units and showcases Melbourne-based Docucopy’s work for a Fuji Xerox ‘Best of the Best’ award.

The 14-year-old Carlton print shop has won the prize of best collateral in Fuji Xerox’s third annual global contest, for its work on a Color 1000 press.

According to director, David Shandler, the award enables the company to approach bigger companies and show what it is capable of. “Competition wise it puts digital very strongly on the map and we can now compete with offset.

“The quality of the book is such that the layman will not be able to tell the difference between offset and digital. The client was very impressed with the Color 1000s capability to print deep rich black and use clear toner at the same time,” he says.

Docucopy’s decision to use Salvo Property Group’s book as a promotional showpiece helped boost sales by 25%. This increase in business almost lasted a solid year after the press was installed.

Shandler noted that the size of the 410mm by 300mm book had proved a challenge for the print team, as hand wire binding required the finished product to be punched twice. The covers were mounted onto 5mm gator board, making them thick and robust.

Simon Lane, national manager for graphic communications at Fuji Xerox Australia, says the win is a great indicator of the quality of work produced with a Color 1000 press. “It’s also a wonderful achievement for a local company to win a global Xerox award in such a fierce competition.”

Customers from 24 countries in the Xerox Premier Partners Global Network took part in the contest. Submitting work into the categories of books, collateral, digital and offset, digital packaging, direct marketing, photo publishing and transpromo.

The judging panel selected winners based on business results, image quality and best use of Xerox technology.
