After nearly a month of touring country towns and outback tracks, this year’s Currie Roadshow draws to a close right on its own front doorstep. Its final three-day stint in Perth drew record numbers and even rounded off the trip with a few sales.

All three days were jam-packed, as more than 120 people from 50 companies swung by the Currie truck to sneak a peak at the latest goodies. Anthony Wagenaar of Port Printing Works took the time to swing by, and he had his eye on the CRON CtP and a Horizon BQ-280PUR. He tells Print21 that there’s more to the roadshow than just the latest kit.

“There were definitely pieces we wanted to see on the trucks, but it’s also good to be able to have a chat with the guys, with David and Bernie. It’s not very often you get the opportunity, to catch up and pick their brains about the industry, where it’s heading. I think that was the biggest draw for us,” says Wagenaar.

David Currie (CEO) joins the Roadshow for the final leg

Currie top brass turned out to take the crowd around the truck, headed up by Bernie Robinson, managing director, and CEO David Currie himself manning the fort for the final leg. They were also joined by Jason Beckley, business development manager, HP, who was on deck for tours of the resident Indigo 3550. According to Wagenaar, for him it’s that extra effort that really makes the difference.

“Things like the roadshow really go the extra mile. Adrian Dixon is our local guy here and he’s been good for us, really pushes the boat for us. I think with Currie that personal touch really comes down from the top,” he says.

Bernie Robinson has been head roadie for the trip, manning the truck all the way from Albury, through Bendigo and Adelaide, and the home-stretch into Perth. He celebrates the end to another successful trek, and even caps it off with a few sales, with a Horizon CRF-362 creaser-folder selling right off the back of the truck.

“I try to personally make all the trucks. We were very, very happy with the trip. She’s coming back a little lighter too, the CRF-362’s staying in Perth, and we’ll be leaving the 3550 there in the showroom too. We had some sales, some great leads, and it’s always great to just take the time to show the guys through the truck,” says Robinson.

Finally back from tour, Robinson takes the weekend to put his feet up. Barely home a night and he’s already thinking about the next one.

“It’s good to keep the momentum going. I’d love to take it back through NSW, but we’ve got sit down and plan it properly. We’ll see,” he says.
