HP cleans up its act

Printers in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney have no excuse not to dispose of ink canisters properly under a new HP Indigo Recycling Program.

The pilot program is available to HP's Indigo commercial and industrial print service providers in the three cities and aims to convert an estimated 6.2 million tonnes of waste per year into recyclable material within Australia.

Operating on a process where used ink canisters are collected by the Currie Group and transported directly to a recycling facility certified under ISO 14001 standard at zero cost, the program is an attempt at developing HP's commitment to environmental sustainability.

"Prior to the HP Indigo Recycling Program, print service providers who use HP Indigo ink canisters had no access to environmentally responsible disposal avenues," said VS Hariharan, of HP Imaging and Printing Group. "Such recycling programs will continue to give our customers choice, convenience and control in how to dispose of products responsibly."

Phillip Rennell, Currie Group's HP Indigo business manager, said that the program was widely welcomed among those at the Currie Group. "Currie Group is proud to actively contribute to environmental conservation efforts through this collaboration with HP," he said.

Depending of the success of the pilot program, HP will consider implementing the process globally over the next year.
