HP expands with narrower web

HP closed a hectic opening day at Ipex with a host of new technology announcements including a new narrower web version of its T300 inkjet web press.

The new version of the inkjet web press is called the T200 and comes with a 521mm wide web compared with 762mm for the T300.

There are other significant differences too between the two machines as HP seeks to expand the range of possible applications for its inkjet web press technology.

The T200, which will be commercially available in 2011, prints 52,000 full colour A4 pages per hour (157,000 for the T300) and has a monthly duty cycle of 23 million pages compared to 70 million for the T300.

Since its launch at drupa08, nine installations of the T300 have been completed – five of them in book production - outputting up to 2 million pages daily with 80 per cent uptime.

Speaking at the press conference, Aurelio Maruggi general manager, HP Inkjet High-Speed Production Solutions Division, said that HP had delivered on the T300 as promised at drupa08.

“We are very happy with the progress of the T300 in the marketplace,” he said, adding that he sees the T200 as a “natural extension of the T300 portfolio.

In a fast-paced news conference, HP also announced a range of new product developments including new HP Indigo 7500 and 3550 digital presses, new large format versions of the HP Scitex latex printers in 3.2 metre and 2.6 metre roll widths as well as a new version of its popular HP Scitex Turbojet, the TJ8600, which will be available as an upgrade kit for current TJ8500/8550 users.
