Hybrid mailer flips personalised print

Heidelberg has turned a mailing system on its print head by teaming up with Kodak and perfector manufacturer Popp to create a special Stahlfolder Flexomailer.

The Stahlfolder Flexomailer enables users to meet the increasing trend towards more target group-specific mailing campaigns, while generating added value.

The mailing system features Kodak Prosper S 10 inkjet print heads that can print variable data on both sides of the page using the Popp perfecting module. An integrated camera reads QR code to ensure personalized text selection remains consistent, such as with addressing.

Alastair Hadley, general manager of sales and marketing at Heidelberg Australia, believes there is a good opportunity for the Flexomailer to come here, particularly for the direct mailing market. “From what I can see it’s a very interesting combination.

“I think what you have with the latest development in inkjet is that it makes more opportunities in colour than previous technologies. It could be white sheets in, coloured sheets out; you may be able to produce the whole mailing inline.

“Our product manager Brain Evans is heading over to Germany next week for the open house and product training,” says Hadley.

Suitable for short run mailing the sheet-based printer’s Heidelberg and Popp components use the same control system, allowing the user operation without all the legwork.

Thomas Krischke, Heidelberg’s head of postpress commercial, says the new mail printer adds value to campaigns by ensuring complete content control for maximum target group accuracy.

"Our customers benefit from the best possible machine components for complex mailing systems, and we provide the security of an end-to-end, tried-and-tested complete solution," he says.
