Industry CEOs focus on skills shortage solutions
The lunch will be held from noon on Wednesday 4 July at the WatersEdge Function Centre, Walsh Bay, Sydney.
Dr Stone recently met with Printing Industries and industry representatives to discuss skills shortages and innovative ways of overcoming the problem. With previous experience from within the printing industry, the Minister has an understanding of the issues affecting printers and will detail a number of financial initiatives for employers to help fill the skill gaps.
She will use the opportunity of meeting industry CEOs to outline some of the government assistance measures available to printing companies offering employment opportunities.
Printing Industries ceo Philip Andersen, said Dr Stone's participation was welcomed as it would give companies the opportunity to personally meet the Minister and get first hand information from her. In turn, CEOs would be able to give feedback to the Minister based on their current experiences.
"This is an important part of our ongoing strategy to raise the industry's profile with government and provide important interaction between our member companies, government Ministers and senior bureaucrats," he said.
Robert Fuller, Printing Industries national operations manager and NSW general manager, said this third CEO forum lunch, themed 'Extending your Employee's Use-by Date' addressed a number of the elements around solutions to the skill shortage.
"This forum continues our commitment of presenting thought-provoking and forward-looking issues for CEOs, general managers and leaders within the industry. The Minister will be suggesting 'outside-the-box' solutions to assist with skill shortage management," he said.
"A key element will be to illustrate how to attract and retain staff, particularly in the 40 and over age group which is now the biggest area of employment growth.
"Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show that 85 per cent of new employment growth is in the 40 years plus range and only 7 per cent in the 35 years and below range.
"This trend has important messages for our industry which will be fully explored during this next CEO Forum," Fuller said.
