Industry to assist graphic arts facility in Nigeria

The proposed facility will put Nigerian capital Abuja on the world map as a leader in the education of graphic arts and printing, and is intended to help bridge the shortage of middle-level vocational and trade training in the region. The campus will offer potential African students a wide range of internationally approved courses, and the project is currently in the assessment stage.

Non-profit organisation Vision Africa Media Training has called on the Australian and New Zealand printing industry to help in the building of the facility. “This is a big challenging project, but I think that we can pull it off,” says Leigh Peric from Vision Africa. “What we are asking from the graphic arts printing industry is to help out financially with setting this facility up, and hence assist with the education of people in developing nations. We are asking them to exercise their social conscience by giving to those who otherwise would not have a chance at getting trained,” says Peric.

Bob & Carolyn Stewart from Stewart Graphics in Helensburgh have already done their part for the appeal. The business donated funds for a building in Benin City (pictured on right), as well all of the printing machinery and the cost of its transport to South Africa.

For others in the industry wishing to get involved in the project, all Australian donations over $2 are tax deductible and businesses will be issued with a tax receipt.
