Industry-wide survey to define Australian printing trends
A new landmark survey will open the doors to all types of graphic arts businesses in an attempt to get a clear picture of the changing printing industry.
Recognising the need to include all graphic arts business and not just those that are members of Printing Industries, the leading industry Association is funding a broad-based, twice-yearly, survey that it hopes will become a defining information source. According to Joe Kowalewski, director communications, the study aims to monitor trends in key business areas to help industry members understand the current state of the industry and make forward projections.
“This is part of a Printing Industries strategy to develop new information resources for the industry to complement other resources such as the Media Super Benchmarking process launched in 2014. Media Super is also supporting the Trends Survey,” he said.
“We are encouraging all industry companies to participant in this project to provide as wide a range of industry representation as possible. This will assist in creating higher quality data, which is important for everyone.
“In addition to the publishing the results, we will be looking to encourage greater industry participation by encouraging direct commentary by guest participants in each survey.”

The first survey will begin shortly with all participants receiving the Executive Summary as soon as it is available. The survey will be conducted by independent research company Catalyst and individual organisation data will not be revealed in the reports – just aggregated data representing the main segments of the industry.
According to Kowalewski, the initial response is very encouraging since the survey was announced last week. Already hundreds of graphic arts companies, large and small have signed on to take part.
