IPEX 2010 Blogs - Andy McCourt Number 5
IPEX rocks! First digital president elected.
On the fourth day of IPEX and it is quite apparent that this show is a WINNER!
Print's back! (Did it ever go away?) The halls are packed, the variety and brilliant colours of print media are everywhere and in the finishing area, a marvellous array of new methods of adding value to printed paper are attracting five-deep audiences.
Today the IPEX organisers announced that, almost halfway through the show, people are still registering online. Over 75,000 have now pre-registered and, at the end of day three, 35,000 visitors had passed through the turnstiles. That's well on track to the target of 70,000.
The big change is that 56% of visitors are from outside of the UK, a 16% increase on the 2006 trend. Yes, IPEX is now well and truly a global show.
Handing over the reins of President of IPEX, George Clarke, also MD of Heidelberg UK, makes way for the first ever President of a major print media show who is from a 100% digital supplier. David Preskett, European Professional Print Director with Canon, (pictured right) is the new President for IPEX 2014. Event director Trevor Crawford said
" David has been an invaluable member of the Ipex 2010 Advisory Committee. We are delighted he has accepted the post of President."
With forward-thinking like this, Ipex has set the stage for another blockbuster two years after the London Olympics.
Four-and-a-half days of show left to go!
(exits chanting "C'mon Aussie, c'mon'c'mon ...")
