Judgment day for PrintNSW Excellence Awards

Printing Industries NSW is staging a special Judges' Tips for Entrants function to help companies plan their award entries for the changed PrintNSW Excellence Awards and flow-on into the National Print Awards (NPA).

2008 heralds a significant shift in the way print awards are conducted in Australia. With the NPA becoming a genuine 'best of the best' for 2009, the only way a printer can win an award at the National Print Awards (NPA) is by first winning gold in their category in their State Awards this year.

In NSW the PrintNSW Excellence Awards is now the gateway to the national awards and has doubled the number of its existing print categories to 30 to fully embrace and recognise every element of the industry. Each state is doing the same and gold winners from each state automatically get entered into the 2009 National Print Awards.

To assist prospective entrants to select and prepare their best jobs, NSW will host a Judges' Tips for Entrants breakfast to coincide with the Awards Launch on 26 June 2008. Key presenter will be the NPA Chairman of Judges, Rod Urquhart, supported by NSW Chairman Warwick Roden and his panel of NSW expert judges.

Printing Industries NSW general manager, Robert Fuller, said the experts would be on-hand to explain how the judging process works to companies planning to enter the awards.

"It's very important that companies understand the process and why some entries don't make it," he said.

"This session will detail what the judges' look for in an entry to qualify it to become a finalist, what factors differentiate two superior entries and how they finally decide on what makes a Gold medal-winning entry.

"The judges are making their own job harder by providing this guidance, but companies acting on their comments will find themselves in a far better and more competitive position."

Fuller said the function would provide an informal environment to meet the judges.

"Sorry, but bribes are not accepted. We will however provide a chance to learn from the judges, mix with this year's potential sponsors and be part of the buzz of the official launch of this year's theme and awards," he said.

Call for entries open on 26 June at the Awards Launch Breakfast, Rydges Hotel Parramatta at 7.15am (Cost $38.50 pp incl GST).  Entries close eight weeks later on 29 August. Contact Printing Industries NSW office on (02) 8789 7300 or email natalie@printnet.com.au if you would like to attend or become one of this year's sponsors.

PrintNSW Excellence Awards 2008 Gala Presentation will be held on Friday 10 October 2008 at the multi-award winning Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf Pyrmont.
