KBA takes a shot at small-format

KBA is already experiencing dynamic growth with sales of its medium and large-format presses, which are now joined by the Polly Prestige and Polly Performer range of presses. The Czech based Grafitec employs over 400 people, and enjoyed a growth in sales growth of over 50 per cent in 2004.

KBA CEO Albrecht Bolza-Schunemann confirms speculation that the acquisition was part of a strategic drive into a market that it sees enormous potential for growth. “Grafitec strengthens our strategic position in small-format presses and our market position in Central and Eastern Europe,” he says. “We believe we will be able to continue to service and further grow Grafitec's customer base.”

Grafitec CEO Petr Skrla has expressed personal approval of the takeover. “The transaction gives Grafitec a strong parent company with significant financial, R&D and distribution resources,” she says. “This will allow the company to continue its impressive sales performance and improve its manufacturing base, while maintaining its strong customer focus.”

At time of going to press Print21 was unable to ascertain whether or when the Grafitec presses will be made available through KBA in Australia and New Zealand. The company established a direct presence in the region 34 months ago and has enjoyed considerable success since then under the management of Rhys Burton.
