Kodak Versamark used for best digitally printed newspaper
When Malta-based Miller Newsprint’s production of The Sunday Times won the ‘Digitally Printed Newspaper of the Year’ at the 2011 UK Newspaper Awards, it highlighted the quality of Kodak Versamark printing systems.
The printer uses a Versamark VL4200 to produce European newspapers such as The Financial Times, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Sunday Mirror, The People, Daily Star, Daily Express, The Daily Mirror and The Daily and Sunday Telegraph for tourists and residents of the Maltese Islands.
Adrian Fleming, managing director for Kodak ANZ says it is a great win and “a testament to our quality print solutions.”
With the investment in the VL4200, Miller Newsprint’s sales volume has increased 50 per cent and now prints on site all of the 60 international titles it distributes. The Times was printed on the VL4200, which is available in Australia.

Malcolm Miller, CEO of Miller Group says the investment means it can print newspapers digitally and radically change newspaper production and distribution in Malta. “The Kodak technology means we can supply newspapers around the clock to more than 1,000 outlets across the Maltese Islands.”
“With the easy transfer of PDF files and digital printing systems like the VL4200, newspapers can now be printed locally for a global market. With the Kodak System, we have the capacity to increase the number of titles available and provide a wider choice. We can print tomorrow’s newspaper and have it ready for distribution before dawn,” said Miller.
According to Kodak, the move was so successful that New Cypriot-based sister company Hellenic Miller Newsprint followed suit a few months later and diversified into printing 25 of the titles it distributes.
