The call to arms went out last year, exhorting those with ink in their veins and a flair for excellence to join fellow print professionals at the front line of the battle for print at the 2015 National Print Awards. Now, with Christmas over and January rushing rapidly to a close, it’s time to take up your arms and enter the fray!

The deadline for entries in the 2015 National Print Awards is looming, with entries due at the Victorian headquarters of Printing Industries in Mulgrave by no later than close of business FRIDAY 30 JANUARY to qualify for entry. For those many entrants who have left their run until the last minute, say organisers, this is the last chance - judging commences shortly thereafter, so there will be absolutely no extensions past this date.

In a move that will make meeting the deadline easier, organisers have arranged for entries to be accepted at all local Printing Industries offices, making it easy to drop off entries wherever you are in Australia and cutting the cost of entry for those outside Melbourne. Importantly, it will also remove the difficulties posed by handling at mail centres as each Printing Industries office will co-ordinate special courier delivery of all entries to Melbourne in time for the judging.

NPA Chair Susan Heaney says entry numbers are picking up quickly as businesses get back to work after their Christmas break, and encourages those who have yet to enter to make a final push to get their entries in – and give themselves a chance to win Gold.

“Entries have been coming in steadily for some time now,” reports Heaney, “but we are expecting that many people will have waited until close to the deadline to get their entries together – but now, there’s really no time to lose.”

Entries  are also now being accepted for the Fuji Xerox Effectiveness Award, a major sponsor Award which is presented for the most effective use of digital printing technologies, taking into account not only print quality but also the effectiveness of the piece in achieving the client’s desired outcomes. Unlike the other major sponsor Awards, presented by Heidelberg and Currie Group, which will be judged from the NPA gold medal winning jobs, the Fuji Xerox Award will require separate entry. If you wish to have your work considered for this major Award, download the form from www.nationalprintawards.com.au/fuji-xerox-entry.pdf and ensure that a separate entry (and copies of the job) are prepared.  Entries for this award close on Friday 13 February.

This year’s Awards will be presented at the National Print Awards Presentation Dinner, on Friday 15 May at Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park. The event, always a glittering occasion, will also be the culmination of the PrintEx 15 exhibition, which is expected to draw print professionals from across Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding areas.

“We expect this year’s Dinner to be very much a celebration of the industry as we mark the conclusion of Sydney’s leading print and graphic communications exhibition, PrintEx 15,” Heaney explains. “Given the opportunity to see the very latest systems, equipment and advances at the adjacent Sydney Show Grounds, there is every reason to be planning your trip to Sydney already and we are expecting a fantastic turnout of print professionals from across Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding region to join us that week. In short, there will never be a better year to win a coveted Gold, Silver or Bronze National Print Awards medal.”
