Launceston apprentice triumphs at local awards
The decision paid off. Four years later, the 20-year-old Launceston man has been named the 2006 Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year at the Tasmanian industry's gala presentation dinner. "It was pretty exciting; I was overwhelmed," Hall said.
Hall was well supported by family, friends and his employers, Anne and Bob Golding who travelled to Hobart for the presentation. Gareth Howard from CMYK Technical Services officiated at the event presenting Michael with a framed award, a monogrammed trophy sponsored by Printing Industries and a sizable cheque from Heidelberg Australia.
"I was ecstatic for Michael in recognition of the years of work he's put in," said his boss, Bob Golding. "He's a very strong family boy and it's also good for us as a small business to see that we've managed to breed such fine quality."
Hall said that the variety of his work at The Design & Print Centre is what he enjoys most. "I really just like printing in general," he said. "I like all the different jobs; we never do the same thing, it's always something different."
Ron Patterson, general manager of the Victorian and Tasmanian region of the Printing Industries Association of Australia, said that both Heidelberg and Printing Industries see the award as an important incentive and recognition for young people making a career in the industry. "It's very valuable for industry organisations and suppliers to work together to promote and support the industry at large," he said
"This Award undoubtedly was a terrific opportunity to showcase Tasmanian talent to not just the local industry, but also the broader industry."
Tasmania regional president, Jim Atkinson said that Tasmania has produced some exceptional apprentices over many years. "The standard and calibre is extremely high and this holds the Industry in good stead moving forward," he said.
Patterson said he foresaw Tasmanian Apprentice of The Year Awards becoming an even bigger highlight in the future.
