For go-ahead Melbourne-based supply and service provider, AGS, drupa is an important opportunity to progress the company’s evolution.
Under Glenn Maynard, managing director, AGS is making a considerable investment in placing its experienced personnel in the midst of the new technology in Düsseldorf. Recognising that many, perhaps most of its customers will not be making the trip, AGS is offering to be their eyes and ears on the show floor, scouting out the latest technology and following up on investigating their ‘wish lists.’
“The reality of the general printing industry is that it is populated with 1000’s of small printers scattered all over Australia, these are the traditional printers trying to make a living, generally small offset and digital with not a lot of cash to splash on new equipment and systems to improve their business. It is also a reality that most of these will not have a chance to go to drupa this year, and will only read about the new innovative big ticket items that make the press, of which they have little chance in purchasing,“ said Maynard.
“As a result of the this, and a continued request by our customers to look for new and innovative solutions to assist their business we have decided to expand our staff and spend a significant amount to go to drupa and find new and innovative solutions.
“We’ll be there for the full show with relays of staff. Andrew Dunn, prepress BDM and Brett Chalkley, sales manager, on the first week while Ross Gilberthorpe and I will be there for the second,” he said. “We intend to cover the entire show and explore all the latest releases that are of interest to our customers.”
The AGS team are currently exploring what sectors are of most interest to their clients and are also inviting other industry enterprises that are not sending people to drupa, to get in touch with specific requirements.
It’s all part of the transformation of AGS designed to expand its scope and create new areas of expertise. In recent months new personnel with a strong emphasis on digital technology have changed the dynamic of the company.
“We believe strongly that a well-balanced team of professionals will give us the ability to assist our customers and grow our business, “ said Maynard. “Gone are the days of the old school traditional sales rep going around and asking for orders. Every time we enter a customer we need to be able to bring something new, to value ad their business, to listen to their needs and ultimately to provide a solid partnership that will help grow both their and our business together.”
Anyone wanting to take advantage of the AGS drupa technology project should contract Ross Gilberthorpe (Ph.03 9545 1400) to start a conversation about what is of interest to you.
