Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 11 February 2009

It’s time to put our differences aside and work together as an industry, one reader reckons. Meanwhile, Print 21 earns some respect for staying positive.

Re: Lamont calls for apology over PSO certification claims

While everyone (ok, thankfully not everyone) argues over PSO certification, consolidation inevitabilities, paper prices etc, would it not be more beneficial to considered that the Australian print industry is about to go into its worst ever year since the Great Depression and that there may just be more important things to worry about? Wake up guys – what is important right now is being smart about how we work and focusing on the client for once, not the production process. For example (and there are plenty of others) most major clients now want “green” printing (whatever that is) but there has seemingly been no serious discussion of this in recent months and yet it may well kill us very quickly if we don’t get it right.

Is it any wonder truly independent print management companies that focus on client requirements continue to buck the trend and actually grow while there are daily closures of SME and even larger print firms? Get angry with me if you like but at least think about it. It might even save you.

Just a note to say how nice it is to see your website hasn't plunged into the depths of gloom and doom in the same way as many others. Some of the printing sites around the world seem to relish in reminding us that it is a tough world out there. We know that to be true, so the balanced view presented by Print21online is a breath of fresh air.
