Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 12 January 2011

Phil Heaton’s thoughts on private equity once again strike a chord with the readers. Let us know your thoughts on this, or any of our other stories.

Re: Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 22 December 2010

Well expressed, Mr Heaton.

After 64 years in the industry, the last 30 imparting my knowledge, I can support every word. When the equity partners first appeared, my ancient colleagues and friends in the industry shared my reservations and grave fears. Not only was I concerned about the pending damage to the coal-face, to the people and the industry's reputation, but also to the peripheral sources trading with the industry and the influence of their attitudes to industry bodies that they may have contact with and distort the industry image in the eyes of government.

The first feature that one has to come to grips with when entering the printing industry for a career is the understanding of the industry's psychology and appreciate the personality of the craft.

Re: Goanna Print is the latest print company to fail
A great shame this has happened, unfortunately there will be more to follow. Why? Huge debts, skinny margins, diminishing markets, etc.

Re: WTF have WWF done? Commentary by Andy McCourt

That is not the case with all countries. In countries like Pakistan, deforestation is really happening. As far as internet is concerned, using it doesn't *produce* carbon dioxide, rather it saves the loads of more carbon dioxide that would have been produced if we would have gone to the original location of the databases and libraries and read the text in question ... some wise man said, "It is much easy to move electrons than atoms."

The argument about necessity of hard copies is right, but who stopped people from using a 'pdf' or any other printable format for that specific purpose? Such a step by WWF at a general level is much appreciated. Also, a lot of personal opinion seems to be blended into this article.
