Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 18 November 2009

Support from our readers this week for the Print – part of every day campaign, and the return of Garry Muratore.

Re: Pride in paper and print campaign kicks off in Sydney
I read a report a while ago about the ‘unit of energy’ and the cost of each unit of energy of having a document hosted online versus the unit cost of energy for the same document to be printed. We will need to have objective scientific research to prove the true picture on which media is the most damaging to the environment. According to my power company, my laptop uses the same unit of energy as a light bulb and taking into account any hosting involved with an online document it all adds up considering we now have 1725 million internet users worldwide. A printed document uses energy to produce; however once produced how long is the life of the document?

If there is any scientific research it will need to be comprehensive as there are many variables, industries and uses for printing and online document production.

Congratulations to the people for getting out and being proactive.

We are only too willing to get on board. Get the web site up and running with some tools for us as printers to download and we will not only concentrate on our staff and other industry people, but also push the message hard with our customers as we already do!

Keep up the good work. We really do need to get on the front foot.

Re: The winds of change: 11 November 2009

Congratulations and welcome back Garry.

Great to see the industry not loose a person like Garry Muratore, our industry needs to keep as much of these talented individuals as possible; and yes, I am biased as he did – and still has – much to offer us all with his knowledge.

Re: Defusing the digital minefield – Print21 magazine article
This article was okay but didn’t go far enough – it would have been good had it outlined how the suppliers of digital printing machines charge – rental and cost per copy as it can be a minefield.
