Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 21 October 2009

More readers reckon the phone books have had their day, while support for Robert Black continues. Write in and have your say on these, or any other, stories.

Re: Phone book printing stays in Australia

I think you must be in gaga land if you think phone books will be still required in 80 years time.

I would say that after the Copenhagen meeting on green house carbon emissions the printing industry will be on its knees as being one of the main contributors to this problem, hence they will slowly slide into oblivion as the electronic media takes over.

Let’s face it, the iron age it has reached its end. NOBODY USES PHONE BOOKS.

The phone books are such a waste. Staff in my office use them as monitor stands; there is a pile of them sitting in the foyer - as they are not needed nor used.

There should be a form to fill out at the post office if you require/want a phonebook.

Re: Robert Black walks from RMIT

I had the honour, pleasure and privilege of presenting Robert Black with the 2009 Innovation in Continuing Education Award on behalf of The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF) and Xerox at the Fuji Xerox Australia Leading Commercial Printers Group event, held during PacPrint.

Anyone who spends a minute in Robert Black’s presence can tell the level of dedication and passion that he has for the growth of the industry through continued education.  The ICGT in the School of Design (TAFE) at RMIT University was extremely lucky to have such an individual as Robert heading it up.  Speaking to the vast array of industry professionals that have had contact with Robert, the more you very quickly understand the respect he has for the industry and the respect that the industry has for him.

I hope that if things are over for Robert with RMIT that another educational facility steps up to continue to give the industry the value of this great educator and industry leader.  You only deserve good luck for the future Robert.

Re: Looking back to the future: Print 21 magazine article

What amazing prescience Derek Fretwell has logically and rationally presented.  Thank you for providing the deep relief that my fascination can rest with the theoretical; because I can start relaxing in the comfort of my chronological advancement.
