Re: Politicians punished for misusing printing allowance

I applaud the response from our Printing Industries CEO (Philip Andersen) on this issue ie turning a problem into an opportunity – fantastic! For PIA to gain access to our parliamentary representatives to promote and educate them on the power of variable data printing and publishing for example is not only beneficial to the industry but the politicians themselves.

Re: Time for printers to move into marketing: PODi Forum

Well I have to say starting to feel tired of reading all what printers must be doing to stay in business and make money and all these gurus telling you what you should be doing or what you should not be doing.

Emails selling the latest must-see course in digital print, being told you must offer VDP, web2print and all the other bells and whistles that are about. For me, business is all about keeping it simple and making sure you make money on all work that you produce.

Sadly at this moment in time this not the case, maybe we should find a way of stabilising these ridiculous prices that we are seeing these days instead of running around like headless chickens chasing the latest fashionable software package.

You only need to read how things are in the UK to see how things are going to go here. There are so many good companies that have intelligent management, good staff, latest equipment and everything that is mentioned above and yet are still going to the wall.

Why is this so? Because we don't put a value on our knowledge, intellectual property, our skill, everything that gives the customer a damn good product. I think it is time we all woke up and started being businessmen or women and selling at a profit.

I better stop now … really I should be at home relaxing but it is 7.30pm and I have a heap to do – hopefully at a profit. That's my whinge for today, but I'm a Pom so I'm allowed to.
