Letters, feedback, get it off your chest: 25 March 2009
Empire Printing’s demise raises ire, while the good guys at Curries get some well-deserved praise for their efforts.
Good old Frank had Colourtec, Rhino Litho, Delaware, Empire Printing Pty Ltd, Empire Printing Group and so on. He has just changed the company name yet again, still operating today.
He has been doing this for over 20 years and still gets away with it. Last year he was caught paying staff cash for their overtime and was caught by the ATO, resulting in a hefty fine for him and personal fines for the staff from the ATO.
Suppliers that have been supporting Frank and his partner should stop supporting him.
I would love the feedback from other suppliers, printers or even staff that have been affected by his deceitful ways. Frankie your day has finally come.

Re: Currie Group comes to the rescue for Payne Print
This is in the spirit of the founder Bill Currie with whom I did business more than 40 years ago.

So nice to hear a good news story for a change. Good on Curries!

Re: Death of the print salesman: Print 21 magazine article
I found the theme of your article pertinent but the continual references to “salesman” and “he” I thought to be somewhat ignorant of the contribution that female sales staff make to the printing industry. This does nothing to change the perception of our industry as being a “boy’s club”.
This may not have been a conscious nor intentional slant but an observation of our industry and indeed many other manufacturing industries is that there is a distinct lack of female representation, particularly at senior management levels. In effect, we have traditionally been ignorant of roughly 50 per cent of the total talent pool.
I feel that authors from within the printing industry need to understand this gender imbalance when publishing articles as we could be discouraging female talent from our industry. It’s in all of our best interests to attract top talent, regardless of gender, to ensure our industry thrives in the future.

Your article was overshadowed by the lack of acknowledgement that there are saleswomen in our industry. Your title is followed quickly in your first three lines mentioning “his contact list” and “his customers”; it is not welcoming to woman at all. I believe the mainly male-dominated printing industry would benefit by promoting gender equality or female gender acceptance.

Outstanding article as always.
You might want to think about a story that goes something like this: companies that employ well-established print reps with a client list where the reps are giving up their contacts to better their career and they find themselves out of a job before they can prove themselves; but the company has their client contact/details a couple of month’s pay.
I think you will find a number of displaced print reps who can attest to this scenario.

Great article. It is the first time I have understood what e-Books are. Thank you for being so informative. Keep up the good work Melissa and Louise and congratulations GEON.
