Letters, feedback, get it off your chest

Dear Editor,

Re: Adobe and FedEx Kinko's snuggle up and push everyone else aside

I read with interest and a certain amount of dismay your recent story about Adobe's latest plans to include a link to FedEx Kinko's print services.

I then got straight onto the Adobe site to register my displeasure ... which I might add was not so easy to do.

It seems that Adobe is quite selective about what they want to hear, and what they don't want to hear from users.

Adobe's latest brainwave is not only not unnecessary, and blindingly heavy-handed, but potentially very damaging to the industry. Designers, production houses, advertising agencies and printers have relationships with their customers - many of whom still purchase a lot of print. Our job is to guarantee the quality, service the client, steer them to the most appropriate solution - and then - make a modest profit for doing so.

Adobe has created some fantastic products over the years that has made my job, and this industry more productive and fun. There have also been some problems along the way. However, by and large, Adobe is a trusted partner to the design, advertising and print industry.

This move is a slap in the face to the industries that have supported Adobe, and may erode (all too hard to come by) profit from small businesses and printers across Australia and internationally.

Don't take it lying down. Let Adobe know that you don't approve, and that they should remove this direct contact feature from their Acrobat products.

It may be worthwhile if Print 21 provided easy links for its readers to voice their opposition to Adobe - or even ran an ongoing online survey that readers could use to communicate their displeasure.

Maintain the rage.

Just to let you know the Graphic Arts Services Association of Australia has also been in contact with Adobe over the FedEx Kinko issue voicing its industry concern, and to ascertain the company's plans for the region. GASAA has received the following communiqué from the regional office of Adobe and we will provide industry updates on our website www.gasaa.asn.au

Dear Editor,

I don't think anybody would be this unprofessional or even stupid to implement this into something so fluently used in the massive
industry this is.

I look forward to hearing Adobe's come-back about this.

Good article, thank you for your communication

Kind Regards,
