License to speed thrills Chisholm TAFE
Chisholm TAFE is one of the first Oce VarioPrint 6000 owners to take advantage of a new temporary speed upgrade license.
The newly launched SpeedPass upgrade licenses allow owners of Océ VarioPrint 6000 digital printers to keep pace with differentiating demands during peak periods, and claims to boost speed by up to 60 per cent in some cases.
One of the first organisations to take up Océ’s offer is Chisholm Institute of TAFE in Victoria. According to Chris van der Weyden, CIO of the TAFE, 50 per cent of the institution’s printed output is produced over a three-month period, placing heavy demands on print room staff. “Being able to upgrade our speed for this time will have a huge impact on our productivity and help reduce overtime or extra shifts,” he said.

Perth-based print production house, Total Digital Solutions, has also jumped on board and is keen to speed up the printing of its short-run books, annual reports and presentation work.
“To be able to make adjustments using tunable print quality without continually revisiting the desktop file is a great time-saver,” said Karen Clatworthy, general manager.
David McCracken, product manager, production printing for Océ Australia said that users of the VarioPrint 6160 and 6200 can boost their printer’s speed up to 250 A4 ipm during peak periods.
McCracken believes that Chisholm TAFE will benefit greatly from the initiative. “Like most educational institutes, [Chisholm] has spikes in production over the year,” he said. “The temporary speed upgrades are ideal for this type of customer workflow.”
