Local industry flocks to Labelexpo Europe 2005

Labelexpo Europe celebrated its 25th anniversary this year with its biggest event ever, with almost 500 exhibitors and 23,000 visitors from 110 countries, up 15 per cent from 2003. The organisers estimate that over $557 million in label printing machines were sold at the show, with the big performers including Nilpeter selling 42 presses, Mark Andy claiming over 30 and Gallus with over 20.

Roger Pellow, managing director of Labelexpo, said this year’s event drew more visitors from a wider range of countries than ever before, as well as offering more opportunities to learn what is hot in the industry. “We are very pleased with the way the show went, and are already looking forward to Labelexpo Europe 2007 for which we already have 80 per cent of the show sold out,” he says.

“The label business is healthy and growing steadily, as the show demonstrated last week, and we at Labelexpo are constantly working with the industry to further develop this growth in key areas and in strategic emerging markets.”

Smart labels for a high-tech sector

The Smart Labels Pavilion was a major highlight of the show, attracting a large number of visitors interested in connecting with suppliers of RFID and other smart technologies. The special seminar day discussed a number of relevant topics including opportunities in smart labels, the demand for smarter solutions, as well as smart labels and RFID in practice.

The Label Industry Global Awards took place on the first night of the exhibition, with over 650 people in attendance at Autoworld Brussels. Gallus picked up the label industry award for continuous innovation, while Skanem received the European converter award for continuous innovation.
