Liquidator Timothy Holden has met with Longbeach Printing owner Michael Wu as he investigates events leading up to the collapse of the south-west Melbourne digital print company.
The first meeting of creditors has been set for Tuesday August 30.
Longbeach closed its doors last month for two weeks then re-opened and advertised for new staff before the liquidator from Foremans Business Services was appointed on August 10.
"The company is in liquidation and is not trading," said Holden, dismissing earlier reports that Longbeach had gone into voluntary administration. "I am looking into the situation and trying to make sure the creditors get the best value out of the business. I'll report in more detail to the creditors' meeting."
Holden has interviewed sole director Michael Wu and requested that Wu attend the creditors' meeting later this month.
"He came into my office and we had a chat to try to understand what happened and go from there," said Holden. "I encourage and invite the director to attend the meeting.
"I have an obligation to investigate what's occurred. If there are any breaches of a director's duties then I am obliged to report them to ASIC."
Earlier this week, Longbeach general manager John De Groot, speaking from the factory at Seaford North, said a skeleton staff was keeping the doors open thanks to 'an interim deal' with Print Focus.
"We're hoping we may be able to work out something long term with Print Focus,” he said. “A handful of staff found other jobs and moved on when we were closed down for a couple of weeks last month so we’re down to a total of three employees right now."
Michael Wu bought the company last year from De Groot’s father Josh.
The creditors meeting will take place at the offices of Foremans Business Services, 314A Bay Road, Cheltenham, VIC, 3192, at 11.30am on Tuesday, August 30.
As of Friday morning, the doors of Longbeach Printing at Rutherland Rd, Seaford, remained open. "Yes, we're still open for business," said a staff member. GM John De Groot was due in later in the day to work the afternoon shift.
