Magazine on a bottle wins global praise for Melbourne company
The design awards were held during the Zenith International Global Bottled Water Congress in Italy, with Modern Media Concepts competing against 135 entries across 30 countries. The Melbourne design agency took home the Best Label and Best Overall Concept awards for its innovative design of iLove, the first magazine to appear on a bottle of water.
iLove represented the introduction of the 'On Product Publishing' concept, an idea developed by Joanna Wojtalik, founder of Modern Media Concepts, during here time at university. The label and packaging technology combines publishing with consumer goods and the company is licensing the concept to publishers and manufacturers around the world.
Wojtalik says the awards have put On Product Publishing on the international stage, and has come at a fantastic time as the company looks to finalise licensing deals. “We are delighted to have picked up these awards and to gain recognition from our peers for our design innovation”, she says.
Oliver Needham, chief operating officer of Modern Media Concepts, says the months spent developing the OPP label and its application has paid off. “We worked closely with a number of Australian companies, particularly Pemara Labels, and these awards are a wonderful endorsement of the hard work put in by all to bring this unique communications tool to market.”
A prestigious line up of independent judges was brought together to deliver the verdicts, including Chantal Sandoz, packaging director of Carrefour, a French based company that is the world's second largest retailer. Also present to oversee the entries was Fabrice Leautey, creative director of Dragon Rouge, a leading French packaging design agency that has worked closely with Nestlé Waters.
“Dynamism, innovation and entrepreneurial flare were evident across every category in the Bottled Water World Design Awards,” said Nayl D'Souza, editor of Bottled Water World.
The winning design from Modern Media Concepts will feature in a special supplement distributed at the IBWA Bottled Water Show being held in Las Vegas this October, as well as the Global Bottled Water Congress.
