Australia’s largest independent finishing trade house, Marvel Bookbinding, has moved the entire hard case book binding infrastructure from M&M Binders into its factory in Melbourne. The move-in and install has been “extremely challenging” but Marvel’s new Hard Case Division is now fully operational, said MD Wayne Eastaugh.
Marvel Bookbinding & Printfinishing last month acquired 12 machines and four key operators from M&M Binders in the wake of the restructure of the new Docklands Press/Ability Press entity in Melbourne.
The move meant that Marvel had to knock down a factory wall to access the required space next door to its premises in Heidelberg West.
“The move and install has been extremely challenging but has gone 100% to plan, thanks to the fantastic efforts of our mechanical and electrical engineers as well as transport specialists,” said Eastaugh. “All of the highly skilled Hard Case staff have fully settled in now with the Marvel team. All necessary supply chain relationships have been fully developed and put in place with a sense of excitement for all parties involved. The ‘Hard Case Division’ is very pleased to announce that we are now in fully operational and open for business.”
Marvel’s operations manager Gordon Gibson says about seven or eight jobs are lined up and ready to go and the first books will begin going through the machines by Monday or Tuesday next week.
“We still have a few final processes to complete before we start running through the books but everything is going very smoothly,” said Gibson. “The new staff from have settled in and adapted to the culture here and we’re all getting on very well.
